Showing up for Community & Ourselves
I find having to “show up” when I don’t feel like it, takes a toll. We all have to weigh our own self-care with how we show up for others. At times, personal needs align harmoniously with the needs of our communities, while other times they conflict- sometimes rather badly. A clash of some scale is inevitable and we can learn how to face it when it comes. There are days when I just have to say “no, I cannot do that,” and days when I must cater to needs greater than my own. This could be taking care of a sick family member or just showing up to work when I don’t feel like it. Allowing this disparity to be okay, rather than expecting constant harmony, can ease anxieties that we feel within the culture of care.
