Neurodiversity & Finding Success
Neurodivergent people often find the road to finding success more complicated. ASD, ADHD, and OCD can carry extra barriers on the path to achievement, even with varying degrees of support and accommodation. Often people with neurodivergent conditions find community engagement and networking exhausting and complicated. To reach life goals, neurodivergent people may rely on masking to navigate and survive these social spaces and avoid prejudice. Masking is a way of hiding less acceptable neurodivergent traits but it can take a toll on mental health and quality of life. Therefore, access to success can be greatly reduced when we suppress who we really are to fit into a world is designed around neurotypical functioning. Success is, of course, subjective, achievable, and common for those with neurodivergent conditions, but it is nevertheless incredibly important for us to acknowledge the barriers that exist for neurodivergent people, and take steps to support them as they chase their dreams.
